What are the stages of ovarian cancer?

what are the stages of ovarian cancer? Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the ovaries. It usually develops slowly and has no symptoms until it spreads to other organs. The disease can be fatal if not detected early on, but it can be cured if caught in time. Ovarian cancer is diagnosed mainly by a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and blood tests.

The most common symptom of ovarian cancer is pelvic pain. Other symptoms include bloating, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, nausea or vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea, urinary frequency or urgency, and indigestion or heartburn.

But along with these common symptoms, do know that according to the stage as well, there are so many changes happening in a person’s body. Sometimes they consider it as an ageing process, and sometimes, they pay attention to it and get the treatment.

Well, for better understanding, here we are discussing the stages of ovarian cancer in detail. But before that, we would like to let you know about Dr. Tarachand Gupta, who is one of the best Medical Oncologist in Jaipur you can approach. He has been in this field for a very long time, and his experience will help you to know about the stage and get the treatment correctly.

Discuss all the changes you are experiencing so that he can realize what is actually happening and consider the testing accordingly.

Now let’s continue with the stages of ovarian cancer that one must be aware of!

What are the Stages of Ovarian cancer?

In this section, we would like to let you know about the different stages of ovarian cancer in detail:-

1. Stage I:

Stage I ovarian cancer is considered early cancer. It is the stage in which there are only a few malignant cells in the ovaries. The cancerous cells are not spread to other parts of the body.

There are two types of Stage I ovarian cancers:

  • Stage IA where 1-3 malignant cells are found on one ovary or both ovaries and have not spread to other tissues or organs
  • Stage IB where 1-3 malignant cells have spread to one lymph node on one side of the abdomen, but not on both sides

2.  Stage II:

Stage II cancer is an advanced stage of cancer. This means that cancer has begun to spread from the place where it started. Ovarian cancer can be classified as stage IIA or Stage IIB depending on how far it has progressed in the body.

  • Stage IIA: Cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes and organs but not to distant sites outside of the body.
  • Stage IIB: Cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes and organs, as well as distant sites outside of the body.

This stage of ovarian cancer is more advanced than Stage I cancers, but they are still treatable.

Stage II ovarian cancers can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. These treatments can help stop the progression of the disease and prevent it from coming back.

3. Stage III:

Stage III cancer is the most advanced stage of cancer. It is considered to be advanced because it has spread to other parts of the body, such as the pelvic area or abdomen.

Stage III ovarian cancer can be treatable with surgery and chemotherapy. Surgery can remove some of the tumours that have grown in your ovaries and pelvic area. Chemotherapy can help stop or slow down the growth of tumour cells in your body by killing them or slowing their growth.

4. Stage IV:

Stage IV is the most extensive stage of ovarian cancer. This is because Stage IV cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver, lungs, or brain.

Doctors use a staging system to predict how far cancer has spread and what kind of treatment might be needed. The stage is based on the size and number of tumours in the ovaries and nearby lymph nodes.

Treatment options available for treating ovarian cancer:

Ovarian cancer is a silent killer because its symptoms are not always clear. It is difficult to diagnose and has a high mortality rate. There are several treatment options available for ovarian cancer, but they vary in effectiveness and side effects.

The most common treatments for ovarian cancer include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. These treatments can be very effective in treating the disease if patients approach the doctor for diagnosis early. However, if the tumor has spread to other organs or tissues in the body, these treatments may not be as effective.

Surgery is in consideration to remove some of the tumors or all of them, depending on their size and location. Chemotherapy is also an option for treatment but can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, hair loss,

Also, do understand that the treatment depends on the stage of ovarian cancer as well. If it has been reached due to stage 4, then there are very few chances that doctors suggest patients go for any kind of surgery. The decision of surgery depends on the state of the person and their body capability. If a person is in a healthy state that their body can bear the consequences of surgery done, only doctors move ahead with it.

Following are the stages of ovarian cancer, and we hope right now you are aware of it. Here we have discussed the treatment options slightly as well but do know that without analyzing the conditions, doctors will not be going to prefer the same.
