What is the main cause of lymphoma?

Lymphoma

Lymphoma is one of the most common types of cancer which can occur in anyone irrespective of their ages. It is a treatable disease and results have been successful most of the time. When white blood cells in the human body grow out of control it leads to lymphoma cancer. When any person suffers from lymphoma, the lymphocytes cells of his body get out of control. They do not die when they need to be. This leads to an abnormal level of lymphocytes in lymph nodes and then starts collecting in any part of the body.

Symptoms:

Symptoms of lymphoma depend on various factors such as part of the body it affects, type of lymphoma, etc. Some of the common symptoms include:

  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Cold and cough
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Itching
  • Obesity
  • Night sweating

Make sure to consult the doctor if you come across these symptoms. Although these are symptoms of lymphoma, yet it can be a common illness. But before recommending any test, you will be asked some questions such as:

  1. How are you feeling?
  2. What changes have you noticed yet?
  3. Do you have pain in any part of your body?
  4. What are your medical problems?
  5. What is your family’s medical history?

There can be many other questions that will help the doctor to recommend whether a person needs to check for lymphoma or not?

Common causes of lymphoma:

But all these things arise a question that what is the main cause of lymphoma? In reality, scientists even don’t know about the main cause of lymphoma. Doctors just diagnose this disease based on several symptoms and tests. Still, there are some common causes of lymphoma which are as follows:

  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is common in people of age group 60 or more.
  • Hodgkin lymphoma is common in people of age group 15 to 40 and people of age group 55 and more.
  • Having a weak immune system and some immune diseases such as HIV/ AIDS, organ transplant etc.
  • Having immune system diseases such as celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis etc.
  • Infected with a virus such as Hepatitis C, human T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (HTLV-1), Epstein – Barr etc.
  • Being in contact with a person having lymphoma
  • The person was exposed to chemicals such as benzene
  • Have taken radiation treatment of cancer before
  • Had been suffering from Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the past

Thus, these are some of the causes that might result in the occurrence of lymphoma in any person. So, if you experience any of the changes or symptoms related to lymphoma, a medical oncologist in Jaipur would suggest you with the best recommendation and treatment if required.

As the treatment of lymphoma depends on the type of lymphoma and its stage, you can go for various tests and treatments in case you are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. These treatments include chemotherapy to kill cancer cells using drugs, radiation-therapy to destroy cancer cells using high energy rays, immunotherapy to attack cancer cells using body’s immunization, targeted therapy to curb the growth of lymphoma cells etc.

While if you are diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, you can go for chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy without even thinking for a second. These treatments help the person to fight with lymphoma cells and live their life happily after.
